Insurance Claims Not Met If Owner is Negligent

There are many things about owning a property that needs to be kept up regularly.   House Maintenance is definitely one.  Keeping a house in good order is necessary to ensure the safety of the family within, and the folk without.  It’s very dangerous to have any trailing roof tiles that have become detached, or a section of guttering come loose in gales and very strong winds, such as we are experiencing very much more regularly these days.  Our home insurance companies only pay for certain claims if they are bona fide, but if it is thought the owner of said property has done little or no maintenance, they mey reduce the amount paid out, leaving a rather big hole in the owner’s bank balance.  Some of the other obvious things to check are pathways from the front gate or driveway up to the front door; are there loose flag stones that could trip anyone up.  Are the fence poss still sturdy and well able to withstand the gusts – a fence panel flying about loose is huge and very dangerous.   Another matter is the storm drains  – water from the roof on my house goes down a drainpipe directly feeding a sepasrate storm drain and sometimes there is bird nest debrit down there.  Trees in the garden need checking too.  Amazing how many do actually fall down when there’s a force 8 gale!
